What Factors Contribute to Increasing Phone Prices?
Wang stated that one of the most significant factors driving up the prices of high-end smartphones is the lithography of their chips. The latest versions utilize 3nm technology, which enhances smartphone performance and energy efficiency.
Additionally, these chips require advanced manufacturing techniques, making them more expensive. For instance, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, will be about 15% more expensive.
Another important point is the significant rise in storage costs in recent years. As users increasingly need smartphones with more storage capacity to accommodate larger applications, games, photos, and videos created by powerful sensors, the demand for higher storage options has grown.
A few years ago, a phone with 32 GB of storage was sufficient for most users, but now the minimum storage for premium smartphones is considered to be 256 GB. This is another crucial factor contributing to higher smartphone prices.
Lastly, Wang emphasized that Xiaomi is committed to selling its phones at “reasonable prices” and that this commitment will continue with the upcoming Redmi K80 series, which will be announced soon, featuring “improvements in performance and other aspects.”
